CHRISTA BURKARDT
Painter
I grew up in Eastern Switzerland in an artistic family. Painting has been a big part of my life since childhood.
After my studies to become a teacher, I attended the School of Arts and Crafts in St. Gallen.
I lived abroad from 2001 to 2011. In 2008, I began painting daily. Inspired by Appenzell painting, I created paintings of my former hometown of Gais and the surrounding area.
A year later, my paintings were exhibited and sold at the Gallery of International Naïve Art (GINA) in Tel Aviv and New York. ( https://www.ginagallery.com )
In 2011 I returned to Switzerland and worked as a special education teacher.
In August 2022 I retired. Since then, I've been painting daily in my studio . My interests are broad and constantly evolving:
After the “naive painting" came still lifes, comic-like illustrations and sketches .
I am fascinated by the depiction of folded or crumpled materials such as cellophane, aluminum, plastic, paper, gold foil, the reflection of light, shine and mirroring.
